Winter road salt pollution from years of excessive salting on United States’ roadways has allowed harmful levels of sodium and other toxic substances to wreak havoc on the environment and contaminate ground water. Contaminated ground water is putting the public’s health and natural resources at risk. Currently, there is not an effective means of managing the locations of snow removal equipment, road salting equipment, real-time local weather conditions and real-time road conditions.
